OCTIHEALTH Home Health was invited by the Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance, or AAHAA, to present at the Antioch Public Library on Dementia-Friendly Nutrition and the important role home healthcare plays in helping individuals with dementia live safely and independently at home.
AAHAA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves residents of Antioch, Grant, and Lake Villa Townships in Lake County, Illinois. Its mission is to improve healthcare access for all residents regardless of their ability to pay, through free services such as volunteer medical transportation, one-on-one nurse consultations, benefit eligibility assistance, and community health navigation.
The invitation from AAHAA created a valuable opportunity for community education focused on practical strategies that support people living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other conditions that affect seniors.
Nutrition is one of the most effective tools available to families seeking senior care and help at home. Simple changes in how meals are planned, presented, and offered can reduce mealtime stress, support better energy and mood, and help individuals with dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s feel more comfortable in their own homes. When these approaches are combined with skilled home healthcare services, the impact on quality of life can be meaningful for both the person receiving care and their family.
The presentation generated thoughtful questions and open discussion among attendees. The conversation highlighted the value of bringing neighbors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals together to share knowledge and support one another. Community education sessions like this strengthen understanding and provide families with practical ideas they can use every day when looking for senior services or help at home.
Home healthcare is about more than clinical services. It is about dignity, independence, and helping seniors remain in the place where they feel most at home. Events such as this presentation allow OCTIHEALTH to share expertise, build relationships within the community, and support local families in practical ways across the Chicagoland area.
OCTIHEALTH extends appreciation to AAHAA for the invitation and to everyone who attended the session at the Antioch Public Library. The engagement and interest shown by participants made the discussion worthwhile.
OCTIHEALTH Home Health remains committed to providing compassionate, skilled senior care, dementia care, Alzheimer’s support, Parkinson’s help at home, and other in-home services that help individuals recover and maintain independence.
